What is the Clown Para Ser?

It is a traveling school of artistic, personal, existential, and foolish-logical development where we use clowning and jesterry as expressive tools to allow human beings to journey through places of their spirit-body experience, in order to enhance presence and joyful experience within ourselves and in the world we live in.

Clowning is a tool that has transformed my life forever. Finding an expressive art form where one can give oneself permission to play with one’s most foolish and intimate parts—those often denigrated, vilified, and stupid aspects—in a patriarchal social world that rewards the powerful, handsome, strong, and victorious, seems revolutionary to me, and full of compassion and love/humor for ourselves.

The ability to journey through your most vulnerable truth and be embraced by the audience, which, like a mirror, reflects the clown’s human beauty and embraces them with loving laughter, I consider a sacred act that allows us to inhabit our own sense of belonging within ourselves and in others.

It is an ode to our “inner idiot,” maladjusted and repressed within the dominant patriarchal socio-familial model, with the intention of repurposing our primary human expressive resources. Clown para Ser (Clown to Be) is a tender embrace of our inner child, fostering authenticity, presence, vulnerability, and creativity in our lives. It invites us to play and experiment both on stage and in everyday life.

This expressive exploration through Theater (Clown/Jester) draws on tools from diverse fields within the world of Art, Ancient Medicine, and Contemporary Psychology. Through specific dynamics, it allows the emergence of intimate personal material with which to play in theater. It gives me permission to show my most vulnerable, most authentic, wildest, most foolish, most reviled side… so that, embraced by the audience, the different parts that make up my natural and spontaneous being are integrated.

It’s an invitation to give voice to the darkest and most forgotten parts of ourselves, to give space to what is most repressed and traumatized, to transform energies stagnant in the past and make them available in the present, in the here and now.

And all of this is accompanied by the laughter of the audience. A balm that embraces and restores our sense of belonging, with all that we are.

It’s an invitation to Be with all that we are and have. With the conviction and courage that I can exist in a more joyful, more authentic, simpler, and more innocent place.
